Podcasting

Podcasting. It's a bit of a funny word isn't it? I think so anyway. I know how to poscast, I even found things that I may like to podcast, however I have nothing to listen to my podcast on! I rarely spend longer than 5-10 minutes in my car (alone and not listeniong to either the Wiggles or High School Musical Soundtrack!) and I am trying to learn to speak French in that time - obviously that is going VERY VERY slowly.

As for the Library, what would we podcast?!?!?!? Rules on how to treat a book or how to use manners in the library? I don't think we'd get many subscribers. We could podcast "storeytime" or "Babies Books and Rhymes" - as long as it wasn't my voice on it of course!!!!

Although i do not podcast, I do think that they are a great idea. If I caught the bus I think I would be podcasting all the time! Here is a podcasting link to a "Lano and Woodley" comedy sketch that I found.

Go on, download it - you know you want to!!!!

Answer Boards... What A Great Idea!

Love the idea of answer boards, I am sure that overall it is very helpful and is somewhat like our "Ask a Librarian". I did notice as I was searching through the Yahoo Answers page that there are a lot of "silly" questions asked......

Delicious......

Today I learnt all about del.icio.us seems a bit like a lot of extra work, but if you are on differnet computers all the time where you don't have a "favourites" folder it is probably a good idea. I do admit, I did subscribe to the new book reviews so that each month I will get an email with reviews of HEAPS and HEAPS of new releases.

And now I am Wiki-ing!!!

Another Day, Another 23 Things!
Well, not really, just one of the 23 things and now I now all about the world of Wiki's (I think anyway). I checked out the Brisbane Wiki, Forest Lake (the beautiful suburb in which I live in Brisbane - see photo above) - even made a change to this, although not a big one, and last but not least I checked out the Brisbane Council Library Services Wiki. Previously I was under the impression that anyone,m anywhere could edit and change a Wiki, although that is true they are regulated often and wrong information is taken back out.
What's next..... mmmm video's online.... bring it on.....

RSS... Really Spiffy Stuff.... or Real Simple Syndication?

So, finally I have conquered the world of RSS (or Real Simple Syndication). Now that I have done this section twice (as I just didn't get it the first time), it would seem that it is perhaps "simple" as the name suggests. Anyway, I have attached a link to the Powerhouse Museum's Image of the Day. These are generally pretty cool. I have being looking on a daily basis for the last week.

A really well set up blog that belongs to Helene Blowers is
http://librarybytes.com/

Check that one out when you can, I recommend it!

RSS and newsreaders are a great idea to add to your blog, you can keep up-to-date with the fast paced moving world around you. I think it is a great idea for Libraries to add these RSS feeds to their websites for community knowlegde as well. In my bloglines page, I added The Dilbert Daily Strip (Comic), The daily astrology for Taurus, The Powerhouse Museum, Venture Blogs and Lessig Blog.

RSS....

Well, today I started Session 4; RSS. I have read the whole lot and really, underneath my red hair I think I am a bit blonde! (No offence to all blonde people out there). I have spent quite awhile trying to

"get it"

but it would seem, to no avail. All I seem to read about it is "blah blah blah blah". I am great with the blog stuff and flickr too (and Facebook although we aren't there yet!). So, tomorrow I will attempt to do the RSS section again and hopefully when you return to my FABULOUS blog, you will be amazed by some kind of RSS live feed.........

P.S. The meerkat was unrelated to the RSS training. I just love Meerkats (really, who doesn't - they are so cute) and wanted to upload this piccy.

The University Library of Copenhagen... WOW!!!

WOW!! Says it all.
These are images that I found of the Univerity of Copenhagen Library that I found whilst I was surfing Flickr.
It looks like a beautiful library and one day I hope to see it in person. The architecture looks amazing and it must have very very very very very very high ceilings (especially for me as I am a little shortie). It also has those VERY COOL ladders that run along the shelves.
After much blogging searchin I also found a cool (but un-library related) blog about cake wrecks... you need to check it out, there is a cool catchy song with a cat and all. Just search "cake wrecks".
Bye for now,
Shel

All the information you ever needed......

Hello and welcome to the Online Reference Guide to Glittershelly.

Where to start..... Well, This is the start on my online learning about...... (drum roll here please),

"23 Things"

ta da!!!! So far, so good. I have never set up a blog spot before so you will need to bear with me as I struggle on through. I am familiar with Facebook and MSN Messenger though. I look forward to learning as much as I can as I think this is a great opportunity for all of us Library Staff.

As for Lifelong Learning.... I am a huge fan of this. Currently I am studying a TAFE course through correspondance but I do already have a Bachelor Degree in Arts and Design. I am always looking for new things to do and learn, even the weekend TAFE courses and such like Mosiacing in 2 weekends are great courses.

Anyway, welcome to my blog and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Maybe once I get the hang of uploading stuff, you'll see my picture!

Bye for now!
